Peace Is Looking for You
This song was inspired by a teaching from the Buddhist monk Ajahn Chah— something he called the “Turtle Tale.”
He said that searching for peace is like looking for a turtle with a mustache.
You can spend your whole life searching…
and never find it.
But then he offered something deeper:
When your heart is ready—
peace will come looking for you.
Over time, that idea began to change for me.
I started to wonder what it really means
for the heart to be ready.
And I came to understand something:
Peace doesn’t arrive just because we want it.
It begins to find us
when we are willing to open ourselves
to the stories we might otherwise avoid—
the stories of injustice,
of suffering,
of people whose lives are very different from our own.
Because those are often the missing stories.
And when we allow those stories in—
not to fix them, not to turn away,
but simply to hear them—
something shifts.
The peace that begins to emerge
is no longer just something we feel inside ourselves.
It becomes something we begin to share—
something that makes room
for others to be seen,
to be held,
to belong.
